Manasquan Craft Fair

Good Morning! Even though we have been extremely busy these past few weeks here at Algonquin Arts, we still managed to attend the Manasquan Craft Fair in Squan Plaza last Saturday and have some fun. Mary and Michelle enjoyed the sun while meeting with browsing locals, handing out brochures, and even selling a few raffle tickets! They managed to escape without making any major purchases, but just barely—the fair had some really great stuff. Manasquan was out in full force, with four legged friends in tow, enjoying the crafts and Jimmy Buffet tunes provided by Ed Austin. A special thanks to Pat and Laura for helping us be a part of this wonderful day!

Month of the Young Child

Hello Everyone! So we know this is a little delayed, but on April 16, we took part in the Asbury Park School District, Month of the Young Child Parade, and it was a blast! Although the weather wasn’t the greatest, kids, parents, and community members were out in full force. In attendance were the Asbury Park Fire Department, Asbury Park High School Band, Curiosity Cat, Acelero Learning Head Start, A Little Class Preschool, Alphabets Preschool, Barack H. Obama Kindergarten, Bradley Preschool and Kindergarten, Care on the Square, Little Tots Preschool, Thurgood Marshall Kindergarten, Mercy Center, Childcare Resources, Foster Care Program, Hispanic Affairs, Prevention First, Mounted Police, Asbury Park Police Department and our very own Education Coordinator, Julie, and Intern, Michelle, representing Algonquin Arts. The girls braved the weather in cool costumes; Julie dressed as a playful puppy, and Michelle doing her best as the Rainbow Fish. The kids were all super excited to see familiar characters in their midst, though we had to keep Julie away from Curiosity Cat (old rivalries die hard).

Overall, the day was a great opportunity to get out into the community and talk to some of the people involved in the organizations that Algonquin Arts teams up with for our Page and Stage Program. If you don’t know, our Page and Stage program goes into schools like those present at the parade and creates activities to go along with the reading of a book such as The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. The kids then get to come to Algonquin Arts to see the play performed on our stage. It is awesome to see how excited they get by theatre when they have that deeper connection to the book! Overall, the day was tons of fun although we did freeze our tails off literally! Hopefully we will have some more great events like this one in the future that we can share with all of you. Have a great day!

New Season!

Hello Everybody! We haven’t gotten into the swing of the whole blog thing yet, but we are working on it. Just wanted to drop in with a quick post about what has been keeping us so busy at Algonquin Arts. We are currently in the process of coordinating our 2010-2011 Season. It’s crazy how 2009 just flew by, and already we are at the part of the year that is just tons of chaotic fun. We can’t say too much, but the summer is shaping up to be one of our best ever. We are branching out and trying new things while bringing back everyone’s old favorites. Jersey Shore summers at Algonquin Arts are not to be missed!

Finally... A Blog!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are pleased to announce that we now have a blog. You know what this means, right? No? Well, neither do we! We are just excited to have an opportunity to let people know who we really are and hopefully share some humorous stories and insight on what it is like to run a nonprofit theatre. Be prepared to share our struggles and successes, and most of all, get ready to be entertained!

Stay tuned....
